Regional Leadership Development Conference (RLDC) - Rules of Behavior

The Regional Leadership Development Conference (RLDC) enhances the leadership skills of the incoming chapter board and future leaders with the purpose of improving chapter leadership and proper transition.


Rules of Behavior

The SHPE Rules of Behavior promotes professional development. The code is expected to be honored when individuals are representing SHPE events and all persons participating in SHPE activities. This code is in effect for all National SHPE activities.

The following examples of unacceptable behavior are subject to disciplinary action. SHPE reserves the right to identify other behaviors not listed below:

Personal Misconduct

  1. Harassment, physical or verbal abuse, threatening physical harm.
  2. Conducting in a manner that endangers the health or safety of others.
  3. Discrimination based on a person’s race, color, gender, religion, marital status, disability, or sexual orientation.

Weapons, Alcohol and Drugs

Under no circumstances should SHPE Conference participants be found in possession of weapons, illegal drugs or alcohol or under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Any participant contributing to the delinquency of a minor will face immediate disciplinary action, expulsion from SHPE Conference and possible law enforcement involvement.

Medications

If you are taking prescribed medication you MUST inform conference coordinators and appropriate SHPE staff.

Damage to Property

All rooms are equipped with standard furniture.  Any damages incurred above and beyond normal wear and tear will be the responsibility of those assigned to the room. If individual responsibility cannot be determined, all guests assigned to the damaged room will be held equally responsible. Guests are not permitted to repair damaged property. All damaged property must be reported to the Registration Desk, which will make arrangements for necessary repairs and assess charges when appropriate.

Fire Hazards

Candles and Incense - Candles and incense are prohibited. Violations may be subject to disciplinary action.
Fire Escapes - Propping open the fire escape doors is prohibited. Loitering on the fire escapes is also prohibited.
Fireworks - Fireworks are not permitted for any reason. Any person found in possession of fireworks will be subject to immediate disciplinary action or expulsion from SHPE Conference.
Smoking - By state law, smoking is only permitted only in those areas that are clearly identified as smoking areas

Furniture

All rooms are equipped with standard furniture. Moving of furniture from room to room is prohibited. Every guest will be charged if these items are missing from the room at the time of check-out.

Garbage

Please do not dispose of garbage outside the hallway of your room or leave full garbage cans in the hallway.

Guests

No guests will be allowed.

Hall Sports

Conference guests may not engage in any sport or sport related activities in the lobby, hallways or stairwells. In addition, guests may not use water pistols, super soakers, or any other mechanism that projects water or any other liquid inside the building.

Skateboarding, Roller-skating, Rollerblading

Skateboarding, roller-skating and rollerblading are prohibited in lobby areas, hallways, rooms, lounges and any other public areas inside the building. Violation may result in confiscation and disciplinary action.

Quiet Hours

In all areas, reasonable quiet is expected at all times. Repeated, excessive noise by a particular guest/room may result in confiscation of the source of the problem (i.e. radio, television).

Attendance

The conference agenda has been designed to allow ample time between events. All attendees are expected to be on time and attend all events and workshops.

Ilness

Attendees must contact the conference coordinators if they are ill.. Please bring your medical insurance card/information in case of an emergency.

Violation of the Code

Attendees will face disciplinary action and expulsion from the conference without a refund for accumulating three (3) demerits.

Demerit System:

  1. One (1) demerit for disrespectful behavior to staff, committee and presenters
  2. One (1) demerit for disrespectful behavior to hotel and/or conference staff
  3. One (1) demerit for not following any of the above-mentioned expectations
  4. Two (2) demerits for aggressive verbal confrontation against any individual
  5. Two (2) demerits for possession or consumption of alcohol in an undergraduate/graduate sleeping room that is billed on SHPE’s master account.
  6. Total of Three (3) demerits constitutes being expelled from the conference and escorted out of the facilities.
    • The organization will not be responsible for any expenses after your suspension. Please note that if you are suspended from the conference, there will possibly be additional cost incurred by you to find other accommodations and/or transportation until you get yourself home.
    • SHPE will send a letter to the Dean of Engineering, Advisor and Chapter Board regarding this unacceptable conduct.

Attendees will face immediate disciplinary action and expulsion from the conference without a refund for the following infractions and will be prohibited from attending SHPE national and regional events during the fiscal year.

  • Possession or consumption of alcohol by minors
  • Possession or consumption of illegal drugs
  • Any person contributing to the delinquency of a minor
  • Any person found in possession of metal knives (of any length or type), fireworks, firearms, or explosives

Damage to the Convention Center

  • Damage charges will be assessed against the individual responsible

Photograph and Video Taping throughout SHPE Conference events

  • I understand that SHPE will take photographs and video throughout the SHPE Conference. I give SHPE permission to use and display said photographs and/or video in any publication, multimedia production, display, advertisement or online publication for SHPE purposes. I release and forever discharge SHPE, its agents, officers and employees from any and all claims and demands arising out of or in connection with the use of said photograph/images, including but not limited to, any claims for invasion of privacy or defamation. I also accept the fact that no fee is applicable to this service. I understand that media will have permission to take photograph and video during SHPE Conference. I give my permission that media may print or broadcast said photographs and/or video with my image.

I understand that failure to comply with the regulations above may result in my automatic dismissal from SHPE Conference. SHPE reserves the right to dismiss participants for any reason that it deems appropriate at any time during the event.
