Call for Workshops
SHPE invites SHPE Conference Sponsors and Exhibitors to present a workshop at the upcoming 2012 National Conference to be held on November 14-18 in Fort Worth, TX. Our conference attracts over 5,000 STEM professionals, pre-college, undergraduate and graduate students, educators, government and corporate representatives. SHPE is in search of influential speakers that will assist us in fulfilling our mission of empowering Hispanics in the STEM fields. We encourage your organization to participate by presenting a workshop in your area of expertise.

Below you will find a draft curriculum as an example of the skill sets we are aiming to provide. We are confident your organization can provide a valuable workshop and we invite you to submit a proposal for consideration. Reserve your space as soon as possible.

Workshops
Workshops will be conducted on Thursday - Saturday, November 15 -17, 2012.
Abstracts submitted need to meet the minimum curriculum described below in order to be accepted.
Date, time, room setup and room size assignments will be completed based on potential audience.
The Education Committee will begin approval and space allocation of workshops by April 30, 2012.
Costs for additional requests must be covered by your organization.
Additional guidelines can be found on the downloadable form. As you design your workshop, please keep in mind that your target audience will include undergraduates, graduates and professionals with varied experience. Please try to create opportunities for cross learning through your workshop. We encourage your organizatoin to bring speakers who are motivational and have past experience presenting new and innovative topics.

Workshop Guidelines
Workshops should be approximately 50 minutes long allowing for 5 minutes of Q&A time at the end.
Please end promptly or continue any conversations with participants outside to allow the next presenter to start his/her workshop on time.
Please ensure your workshop is consistent with the abstract submitted and approved by the committee.
To ensure a more balanced Education Program, we have defined the workshop categories and proposed workshops in more detail.
Please work with the Education Team to ensure your AV setup is defined by October 12, 2012. Requests will be honored on a first come, first serve basis.
A/V Requirements
- Lecture style workshop rooms are set up based on potential audience.
- Classroom style setup (either round tables or rectangular tables) will be provided for Hands On workshops unless otherwise discussed with your Education Lead.
A/V Setup provided in each room:
- LCD Projector
- Projector Cart
- VGA projector cable compatible with Non-Mac laptops
- Screen
- Power strip
- Microphone and speakers will only be provided for rooms with audiences larger that 50 attendees
Laptops will NOT be provided. Presenters must bring their own laptop and adapter for Mac Computers.
If you need additional Audio Visual equipment, please contact us for a price quote.
All Audio Visual equipment requirements need to be addressed by October 12, 2012. These AV needs can include any additional microphones, speakers or setup.
The presenting company/organization should provide any additional equipment required for the workshop.
