SHPE Jr. Newsletter - Spring 2013Today, hundreds of high school students across the United States are being inspired to graduate from high school and pursue a college degree in science, technology, engineering, and math. The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers has a tremendous network of Hispanic college and professional SHPE chapter members who today serve as role models, mentors, and cheerleaders for our high school chapter members. Over the last year the number of SHPE Jr. Chapters has grown to 80. Read More State of SHPE - March 2013A tremendous amount of progress has been made over the last three years with SHPE's leadership working together to create powerful change. It's an honor to serve as your CEO. It is my goal to continue to implement processes and systems to ensure a financially sound and transparent organization. I also know that making sure key leadership is involved in critical organizational decisions makes for a stronger organization. There is still a lot to be accomplished. CEO Update - Dec 2012The SHPE staff and Al Rutherford and Associates are working on securing all final hotel and conference costs so that we can reconcile the revenue to expenses. Focus will be placed on finalizing the reconciliation so that we can then compile an up-to-date cash-projection for this fiscal year. Many vital areas are being advanced especially with high impact/high visibility initiatives such as: Strategic Plan, IT Plan, governmental relations, increased marketing and PR, and Letter from the CEOThis is an exciting time for Latinas in the United States. Latinas represent 60 percent of Latinos in higher education, and we're making tremendous strides in the health care and technology fields. Take for example Dr. Ellen Ochoa who is leading innovation at NASA or our own Diana Gomez, SHPE Foundation President, who was recently promoted to Deputy District Director of Operations, becoming the highest-ranking Latina engineer at Caltrans. I am also proud to be a female chief executive officer heading the largest Hispanic STEM organization in the nation. Read More |
