Reaching for the Stars

"My SHPE MIT chapter became my Familia away from home and that's where I grew for years, becoming a vice president, then president of that chapter. I was able to represent them at conference and grow more as a person, as a leader, and as an engineer." - Xavier Zapien, a SHPE grad student member who plans to become a Chief Engineer and one day an astronaut

SHPE, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, welcomes your tax-deductible financial contributions in support of our programs for Hispanics in STEM. Our organization is dependent upon the support of corporate sponsors and individual donors. Your tax-deductible donation will assist us in continuing our mission of empowering the Hispanic community to realize its fullest potential.

Life Changing

"Since SHPE changed my life, I can't think of a better way to thank them than to give back to my chapter. My hope is to influence students to feel like they are a part of something bigger and that engineering is definitely for them." - Catherine Trevino, President at the University of Texas, Rio Grande Valley chapter, who landed an Intel internship through SHPE

About the Funds

According to the Pew Research Center, lack of financial resources is the number one reason why Hispanics don’t complete their STEM degree. And currently, SHPE is only able to award scholarships to 20 percent of the students who apply. Let’s all work together to help more members. Every dollar donated helps our members succeed.

In 2019, SHPE Board Chair Miguel Alemañy established a fund in honor of his mother, Helen Cuesta, to give a scholarship each year to a deserving female student in SHPE who has demonstrated the ability to overcome life’s obstacles and who doesn’t give up.

Established as an endowment by Board Members Dr. Emily Allen, Will Davis, and Diana Gomez, the SHPE Pride Scholarship is designed to recognize students who are out and proud, support an inclusive SHPE Familia, and make a difference for the LGBTQ and Hispanic community.

Our members have worked hard to get where they are in their education or their career and with COVID-19 they're faced with adapting to learning or working remotely. Yes, they are RESILIENT! But even resilient people need help sometimes. Will you go ALL-IN on offering our members a hand-up?

As a nonprofit organization, we rely on donors like you to fund our mission of changing lives by empowering the Hispanic community to realize its fullest potential and to impact the world through STEM awareness, access, support, and development.
