Launching STEM Careers

The InternSHPE program offers valuable growth opportunities for STEM students to accelerate their learning and career preparation. Interns are often able to see topics they learn in the classroom in action during their internship experience. With the InternSHPE program, SHPE works with corporate partners to deliver internship experiences that provide professional development and community building.

Studies show that interns gain valuable industry knowledge, develop professional skills, grow their professional network, build career identity and confidence, and gain work experiences to reference in future job interviews. (The Intern Group, 2016).

Expanding upon traditional internships, the InternSHPE program provides opportunities for interns year-round to gain a sense of community and build upon their professional development. The pre-InternSHPE phase will include activities such as participation in MentorSHPE and self-study courses related to successfully navigating the first month of the internship and personal finance. Interns will continue to be immersed in community including their SHPE Familia at their respective companies and support throughout their internship through participation in an InternSHPE orientation, lunch and learns, self-study courses related to project management, and continued involvement in MentorSHPE.
