Region 2

Whose house? Two’s house!

You’ve heard the expression - Location. Location. Location. In this case, it’s your location that determines where you belong within the SHPE familia. Region Two covers the Southwest and includes Alaska, Arizona, Hawaii, Southern California, and Southern Nevada.

  • Vice-President

    Leo Soto
    The Boeing Company

I joined SHPE in 2006 as an undergraduate at Rutgers University. I joined for the opportunity to land the career of my dreams. What I immediately loved about SHPE was the Familia feeling of the organization. It was because of SHPE I was able to start my career at Boeing, where I currently serve as a Structure Design Responsible Engineering Authority. During my time at SHPE, I served as Chapter President at Rutgers University, Chapter President (and founder) of SHPE South Bay Los Angeles Professional Chapter, and now as RVP, where I represent the region to best serve their needs.

  • Regional Student Representative

    Miguel Cuen
    Arizona State University

I joined SHPE in 2016, my first year studying Computer Science at Arizona State University. I was recruited to play soccer for the organization and quickly realized there’s more to SHPE than sports. Throughout my time at SHPE de ASU I was mentored and coached throughout my professional development and I owe everything to the people of the organization. It was because of SHPE that I was able to land two internships with Accenture and American Express to finally find my passion in STEM. I served as a chapter leader for several years, a term on the National Board of Directors, and currently your Regional Student Representative. I can never pay back what SHPE has done for me but I’m hoping to do the same for others on their journey.

  • Regional Junior Representative

    Kenny Linares
    San Diego Professional

My name is Kenny Linares. I am from the greatest city in California; Modesto. I am the proud son of two Mexican immigrants. I transferred to the University of California, Irvine (Zot Zot!) and graduated with my degree in Civil Engineering in 2019. I have been involved with SHPE since the spring of 2017. I was EVP of SHPE at UCI during the 2018-2019 school year, when we won 14 total awards, including the SHPE National Medium Chapter of the Year award. I now work for Turner Construction in their Special Projects Division in sunny San Diego. I love watching sports and I am a big Los Angeles sports fan (Lakers, Dodgers, Rams). I recently started playing golf and I enjoy traveling and eating food!

  • Regional Graduate Representative

    Sebastian Ojeda
    University of Southern California

My name is Lauro (Sebastian) Ojeda, and I am the Regional Graduate Representative for Region 2! I was born in Quito Ecuador and grew up in Ann Arbor Michigan, where I attended the University of Michigan (UofM) and received my bachelor's and master's degrees in Chemical Engineering. I am now a second year Biomedical Engineering Ph.D. student at USC researching theragnostic nanoparticles for early cancer intervention! I have been a SHPE member since my undergraduate days at Michigan, but I really began to get more involved as a graduate student at USC! I am very passionate about outreach and the promotion of education to underrepresented minorities in STEM which I aim to do with my position as the RGR2. In my free time, I love to play sports (and I am a big Michigan/Detroit sports fan), hike, and discover new music to play!
