Gilberto Saenz, Jr.
IBM, RetiredGilberto Saenz Jr retired from IBM in 2006 after 33+ years - 24 years in management, including ten years as an executive - In his last job at IBM he was a VP in the Software Group.
He received a BS degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of
Texas at Austin in 1972 and completed the majority of the course work for an MS degree in Computer Science in the UT Austin Graduate School of Computer Science.
He spent his first 9 years with IBM in hardware development in Office Systems. From there he moved into software development, working on OS/2 Communications Manager, Printer Systems software, Storage Management software and finally to managing the IBM Software supply chain.
While at IBM, Gil worked with Hispanic, Native American and women’s groups, mentoring and supporting efforts to increase their numbers in IBM and in engineering and software in general. He also supported the promotion of individuals in those groups into leadership and management positions whenever opportunities came forward.
Since retirement, he has been a board director of Foothills United Way of Boulder for six years and for six years as a board member of Intercambio - providing ESL adult classes in Boulder County. He also served as a board director and VP of Programs and Events on the NBoD of MAES, Latinos in Science and Engineering until 2018.
Gil is a lifetime professional member of MAES. He is also a lifetime professional member of SHPE. He has also served as the professional adviser to SHPE-MAES CU Boulder student chapter from 2006 to 2021.
He was also a general partner with Alma Rosales in RS&Associates, a professional development partnership providing professional development training to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math) college students and professionals.
He has 3 daughters and 7 grandchildren - that he hopes will rock the world. His major passions are his family and STEM outreach to underserved minorities & women.
