USPTO Supervisory Patent Examiner Jim Alstrum-Acevedo enjoys promoting STEM education, which he does as president of the USPTO's professional chapter of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers. "My advice for today's youth interested in a career as a patent examiner or in STEM generally is to follow your passions, believe in yourself, ask questions, and always try to keep learning something new, regardless of where your life path takes you," Alstrum-Acevedo said.
